How to Submit Samples to the X-ray Lab

  1. If you want to check the quality of your sample, bring it to the x-ray lab (NCB 240) and look at it under the microscope. If you want an "expert" opinion, see me in my office (NCB 211).

  2. When you are sure you have crystals, write your name, date and phone number on the sign-up sheet on my office door (NCB 211). Samples will be handled in the order in which they are received, with few exceptions.

  3. Fill out a sample submission form to go with your samples. (A How-to guide for filling out the Sample Submission Form.)

  4. If your samples are not air-sensitive and do not require any special handling leave them on the bench in the x-ray lab (NCB 240) along with your sample submission form. If they need to be kept in an air-free or refrigerated environment, take them with you, but please leave the form. I will give you fair notice before your turn comes around, but if I do not have your sample and I cannot locate you, I will move on to the next person in the queue.

  5. When your structure is solved and refined I will send you an e-mail telling you how to collect your data as well as various pictures and reports on your structure.

As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call (410-516-8569), e-mail xray@jhu.edu or simply stop by.

I hope to see you and your crystals soon!
